2017 Arc Exposure Event at Butte College Sparks Interest for High School Welders

Entering its 10th year, the Butte College Welding Program successfully attracts high school students from all over Northern California. Taking place January 17-20 at the college’s welding department, 181 high school students and 46 instructors received hands-on training in the latest welding technology techniques and equipment at the college’s welding department.

Representatives from Miller Electric, Hobart Brothers, Smith Equipment, and MJB Welding Supply offered presentations. Also during the event, participants visited Metal Works in Oroville for a tour of their manufacturing facilities.

A total of 25 Butte College Welding Technology Program students assisted high school students in learning valuable welding skills that they can use to further their welding skills or enter a college career pathway after high school. School participants traveled from as far north as Hayfork/Trinity and as far south as Clovis/Madera. Strong supporters of this event include industry partners – MJB Welding Supply, Metal Works, Tinks Inc., Transfer Flow Inc., Sierra Nevada, COE Manufacturing, West Valley Construction, and PG&E.
